Playwright Richard Bean, known for such works as One Man, Two Guvnors, has penned a new play which opened on June 30 at the National Theatre.

The play, entitled Great Britain, centres on the intimate relationship between the press, the police and the political establishment, which has been of great interest in the news. The play opened without any previews and looks to be performed for a short time before its end on August 23.

Its cast includes actress Billie Piper as Paige Britain, an impulsive tabloid news editor, as well as additional cast members such as Robert Glenister, who could be recognised for his famed role on BBC’s long-running television series, Hustle.

Associated with a somewhat controversial theme, the opening was delayed as the theatre awaited the phone hacking trial verdict. The play has so far received rave reviews from such publications as The Independent and The Telegraph. Groups looking to book should visit www.nationaltheatre.org
