‘Those Groups are Made for Walking’.

Walking group specialists HF Holidays this week encouraged tour planners from around the UK to don their boots and head for the country. It took place in one of the country’s most beautiful tourist spots

And the sublime destination in question was Bourton-on–the –Water, right in the heart of the Cotswolds.

Harrington House was the wonderfully located hotel. A magnificent Georgian mansion, it’s right on the edge of the idyllic River Windrush and the iconic Bourton waterfront. In fact, Harrington House is just one of many HF country house locations for tour planners to choose from with destinations including Snowdonia, the Lake District, the Scottish Highlands, Dorset and the Yorkshire Dales to name just a few.

Organised in conjunction with Travel World Association [TWA], the group of GTOS and tour operators were treated to stay at Harrington House, a delicious dinner and a fun game of indoor skittles with some German walkers also staying at the hotel. They also experienced a walking tour of the local area – including the nearby villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter – and were expertly guided by HF Tour Leader Chris Merrit.

HF Holidays have been organising walking holidays and special interest breaks since 1913. https://www.hfholidays.co.uk/  Most of HF Holidays’ UK guided walking holidays feature a choice of up to three walks a day.

All ages, backgrounds and abilities are catered for by HF and the attendees on the Showcase in the Cotswolds demonstrated this by experiencing what was a comfortable two hour ramble over a variety of terrain locally.

‘The group really enjoyed the opportunity to sample one of our tours – and it was of course right from the doorstep of our lovely country in Bourton-on-the-Water,’ explains Helen Muncie, Specialist Sales Manager for HF Holidays.

‘Many GTOS and group travellers generally would like to have the chance to do something just a little different from the norm whilst visiting iconic destinations – and taking in a carefully researched and guided walking tour led by our expert guides is a very good way to do this.’

The walking tours are great fun for groups, couples or individuals.

Steve Reed of TWA and MD of Steve Reed Tourism Ltd agrees:

‘We’ve noticed over recent years that many GTOS and tour planners increasingly want to try something different from what they’re used to on a typical group tour. There are many active retired groups right across the country and they’re keen to try lots of outdoor activities, especially if they’re structured and well planned,’ says Steve.

‘Whilst we understand that physical mobility for the individual can decrease over time, walking is one of those activities which to a degree is available to many people – and an HF Holidays tour is one such example,’ says Steve.
