Visitors to the National Horseracing Museum in Newmarket will be able to see 'Hula Hooping Girl' by the celebrated street artist Banksy at a special exhibition this summer.

The Banksy work will appear as part of Urban Frame: Mutiny in Colour, an exhibition of more than 300 works by 14 leading contemporary artists, including Damien Hurst, Tracey Emin, Blak Le Rat and Pure Evil. The exhibition, from 3 June to 1 October, is being organised in association with Brandler Galleries and will be shown across three venues in West Suffolk, including Moyse’s Hall Museum in Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill Arts Centre.

Hula Hooping Girl, which first appeared on the wall of a beauty salon in Nottingham in 2020, will be shown alongside Citroen Berlingo Van, a vehicle painted with 200 eyes by the artist My Dog Sighs for Coventry Museum.

Hon Frances Stanley DL, Chair of Trustees at the National Horseracing Museum says: “We are thrilled to be working with Brandler Galleries along with Moyse’s Hall Museum in Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill Arts Centre to provide residents and visitors alike the chance to view this very special exhibition of vibrant street art which will be one of the largest exhibitions of modern art in the country in 2023.”

Tracey Harding, Manager of Discover Newmarket, adds: “The National Horseracing Museum is an established location for viewing world-class sporting art including the likes of George Stubbs and Sir Alfred Munnings. So it is very exciting to now be able to display works by contemporary artists such as Banksy and Damien Hirst, too. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with our neighbours in Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill to welcome a new crowd of visitors into the area.”

Urban Frame: Mutiny in Colour will be at the centre of a number of high profile events and community projects taking place across West Suffolk. Entry prices have been specifically kept low and set at £7 per location for adults and £3 for children aged 12-18 years under 12s will be free.
