One of the top attractions in the south east of England welcomed groups back earlier this month. Painshill in Cobham, Surrey, received visits from specially invited coach and tour operators and group travel organisers to its special Painshill Experience Day.

The 18th century landscaped garden is ideally situated just off the A3 and M25, see https://www.painshill.co.uk/things-to-do-and-see/

Arranged in conjunction with UK travel trade company Steve Reed Tourism Ltd, the day-long event saw tour planners arrive at staggered times to receive a welcome to the landscaped park by Painshill Director Paul Griffiths. The sun shone down on the delegates and it was the perfect opportunity for tour operators to see and experience a top class group and coach friendly attraction.

The individual GTOs and operators met the team from Painshill and enjoyed socially distanced guided tours around the park taking in the numerous sights including the Crystal Grotto; five Arch Bridge; Hermitage; Turkish Tent; Serpentine Lake; Temple of Bacchus and Waterwheel. The important event was attended by Visit Guildford.

Enjoying packed lunches and tastings of Painshill wine during their outdoors exploration, the tour buyers – each looking to plan and arrange 2021 groups tours – included Albatross Travel; Sunrise Travel; Coach Buddy; Travel Arts; Complete Pleasure Ltd; Solent Events; HA Travel Group All in One Tours and Just June Trips as well as many others.

The event proved to be immensely popular, says Paul Griffiths Director of Painshill: ‘A visit to Painshill for tour planners is the perfect way for the travel trade to appreciate the full value and attractiveness of group tours – it’s so flexible here for groups. The tour planners were able to see and appreciate that attractions like Painshill really do welcome groups and that in these COVID compliant times they can do so safely whilst looking after their group customers too.

‘It’s important for attractions like Painshill around the country to work closely with tour planners – we’re all parts of the same and vital tourism jigsaw.’

A Grade 1 listed garden, Painshill was created between 1738 and 1773 by the Honourable Charles Hamilton after he was inspired by Renaissance landscape painting. From the sparkling Crystal Grotto to the amazing Gothic Tower, each of the beautifully unique buildings is dramatically placed to create a lasting memory for visitors. Other key features include the Waterwheel, a quaint Hermitage hidden in the woods and the Painshill Vineyard. And now the team at Painshill are looking forward to taking group enquiries.

Steve Roach who is the Head of Visitor and Commercial Operations says: ‘We have free coach parking for coaches here at Painshill and we’re so easy to find being just off the A3 and the M25 in Surrey. Painshill has all of the facilities and services that groups expect including toilets, café, tour guides and shop. It’s a perfect and stunning choice for tour planners to help them make a success of their tours in 2021 and beyond.'
