Scott Ellis’ production of Bernard Pomerance’s classic The Elephant Man will transfer to London this spring, featuring a US cast led by Bradley Cooper, Patricia Clarkson and Alessandro Nivola
The Elephant Man will play at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a limited 12-week season from May 19-August 8, 2015.
The Elephant Man follows the story of a 19th century British man, who becomes a star of the traveling freak show circuit. Based on the life of Joseph Merrick, Dr Treves takes Merrick under his wing and becomes astonished by his resounding faith and intelligence – a narrative that leads to a blossoming friendship.
Bradley Cooper stars as John Merrick, with Patricia Clarkson as Mrs. Kendal and Alessandro Nivola as Dr Frederick Treves. Additional cast members include Anthony Heald, Scott Lowell, Kathryn Meisle, Henry Stram, Chris Bannow, Peter Bradbury, Lucas Calhoun, Eric Clem, Amanda Lea Mason, Marguerite Stimpson and Emma Thorne. Bradley Cooper commented: “Never did we think we would have the privilege to perform this show on Broadway, let alone in London. I’m honoured that Alessandro, Patricia, the entire company and I have the opportunity to continue to tell this story.”
The Elephant Man is currently performed on Broadway and is scheduled to run at the Booth Theatre in New York until February 21, 2015. For more information visit www.elephantmanlondon.com
