The Great Central Railway has announced that LMS Stanier Mogul No. 13268 from the Severn Valley Railway and the Stanier Mogul Fund will appear as the third visiting locomotive at this year’s Autumn Steam Gala, which takes place from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 October 2025.
The Mogul recently returned to traffic following a major overhaul that was completed last year. Its appearance at the gala provides enthusiasts with the chance to see the locomotive working alongside the GCR’s own fleet and other visiting engines. Built in 1934, No. 13268 is the sole surviving example of Sir William Stanier’s Mogul class, designed for mixed traffic duties across the LMS network. The class was withdrawn from service in the 1960s, with 13268 preserved by the Stanier Mogul Fund.
LMS Stanier Mogul No. 13268 will be appearing besides LNWR “Coal Tank” No. 1054 and LMS Jubilee Class locomotive No. 45596 Bahamas, already confirmed as the headline guest and marks the first occasion that two members of the Bahamas Locomotive Society’s operational fleet will run together at the Great Central Railway – a rare and unmissable sight.
The Autumn Steam Gala is one of the GCR’s flagship events, offering four days of intensive steam action. The timetable will feature passenger, goods, and double-headed workings, along with evening trains on Friday and Saturday for an atmospheric “steam at dusk” experience. Visitors can also enjoy GCR’s beautifully restored, period-dressed stations, tours and access to key areas of the railway, the onsite museum, and a selection of cafes and refreshment rooms.
Tickets are now on sale via the railway’s website at www.gcrailway.co.uk
