In a move to enhance its international guest experience, the social history tour has introduced Mandarin and Polish audio guides, bringing the total number of languages available to eight.

Working with the ETAG China-Ready campaign to improve the experience on offer, the Close is now more accessible to guests from China, ensuring they have the opportunity to not only appreciate the fascinating setting, but to also uncover its intriguing story.

Inviting visitors from all over the world to step down and discover Edinburgh’s hidden history, 2017 saw The Real Mary King’s Close welcome 250,000 guests – the busiest period in its 15 year history.

Chair of Edinburgh Tourism Action Group’s China Ready Initiative, Rob Lang, says:
“With the recent arrival of the first-ever direct flight from China to Scotland, it’s fantastic to see one of Edinburgh’s most popular attractions benefit from ETAG’s China-Ready advice and support and seize the Chinese market opportunity.

“Edinburgh’s history, architecture and stories hold huge appeal for Chinese visitors - and we’re delighted that the team at The Real Mary King’s Close are developing their experience for the Chinese traveller. ”

Guiding Manager of The Real Mary King’s Close, Keith Baxter, says: “We are excited that the new languages are now live, and are looking forward to welcoming more guests from China and Poland. The Real Mary King’s Close has a strong international reputation, and the introduction of additional audio guides will help us to support these important new audiences, providing a better experience for all. ‘’
